whole grain

A cereal product which contains all of the parts of of the grain, including the bran and germ. In refined products, these components are successively removed leaving only the endosperm. It is a principle of nutrition that the less refined a cereal product, the healthier it is due to the higher levels of vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber contained.
