Protein

Protein is an important nutrient and, together with carbohydrates and fats, is an important component of nutrition. The body requires constant supplies of protein as it cannot produce it itself. Proteins have many functions in the human organism. Proteins as enzymes facilitate important metabolic processes. They provide the structure needed for the production and maintenance of body cells and are part of the immune system. Primary sources include meat, fish, eggs, milk products, nuts, cereals and pulses.
