microorganisms
Microorganisms or microbes are very small organisms which can only be seen under a microscope. They include bacteria, yeast, molds and microscopic algae. Microorganisms play an important role in the organic cycle and in the production of certain foods (e.g. cheese). However, some microorganisms are harmful and can cause disease in humans if ingested with food.
