glycemic index GI
The Glycemic Index (GI) of a food reflects how strongly it influences blood sugar level and this depends upon the type of carbohydrate it contains. Foods which cause high fluctuation in the the blood sugar level have a high GI. A diet based on foods with a low glycemic index is recommended for nutrition-related diseases such as diabetes, obesity and arteriosclerosis.
