food labeling
Food labeling provides consumers with specific information about a product. It is regulated by legislation. Labeling on packaged foods must include the following information:
- description of the product (e.g. cream cheese)
- list of ingredients (including additives and allergens)
- best before date or use by date
- quantity
- manufacturers details (name and address)
- batch number
In addition to this information, certain foods must also display product specific information (e.g. eggs, mineral water, milk). Genetically engineered foods must be labeled as such.
