flavor enhancer
Flavor enhancers are chemical substances (acids or salts) which are added to foods to intensify the taste and the aroma. They are produced synthetically and have little or no taste themselves. Flavor enhancers sensitize the taste buds on the tongue. They are classed as additives and must be labeled. Their effect on the body is still not comprehensively researched, particularly the reputed property of creating physical and/or psychological dependency, and they are therefore not used in high-quality cuisine, particularly in school and nursery catering. Organic foods specifically exclude the use of flavor enhancers.
