energy-defined nutrition

A nutritional plan in which the energy intake (calories) is set either above or below general recommendations. In the case of overweight and obesity, foods with fewer calories are prescribed. In the case of underweight, an increase in calories is prescribed. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is also often treated with a low-energy diet to reduce weight.
