chewing and swallowing difficulty
Often, chewing and swallowing becomes more difficult with increasing age. Sufferers learn to avoid foods which require intensive chewing and favor those which are easy to swallow. This can lead to one-sided nutrition which does not provide sufficient nutrients and energy leading to malnutrition and increased degeneration of bodily functions. It is therefore important to provide those with a chewing and swallowing disability with foods that have a high nutrient content and a soft consistency i.e. puree and drinks.
