calories

The calorie (cal) is a unit of energy measurement, generally given in Kilocalories (kcal= 1000 cal). They are used to measure the energy content of nutrients in foods. Although this unit has long been replaced by the international SI unit Joule (1 kcal = 4.2 kJ), the calorie is still in popular use.
