Additives such as flavor enhancers, colors, antioxidants, are substances which are deliberately added to foods during manufacture or processing in order to achieve for example.:

  • improvement of consistency, taste, color or smell
  • simplification of processing or storage
  • hygienic quality
  • extension of shelf life

Additives may be natural or synthetic.
